A typical scene along the Nærøyfjord, in western Norway. The Nærøyfjord is 18 kilometers long (11 miles), is only 500 meters wide in some spots (1,600 feet), and is about 1,280 meters deep (4,200 feet) on both sides throughout its length. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it (along with the nearby Geirangerfjord) also has been rated by the National Geographic Society as the world's number one natural heritage site.
This dog stood there posing regally like this for about a minute, presumably waiting for his people. But I like to think that he had some awareness of the beauty of his surroundings, and the solemnity of the moment.
